FIRE DEPARTMENT

TOWN AND VILLAGE OF EGG HARBOR FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Town of Egg Harbor and the Village of Egg Harbor jointly operate a volunteer fire department and own two fire stations, one of which is located just outside the Village limits on School Road and the other located east of Carlsville at the southern end of the Town.  Together the stations house seven trucks including a ladder-platform truck used for large buildings and bluff dwellings.  The department has recently acquired a brush truck to handle brush fires and small duties.  The department is staffed by approximately 40 volunteer firefighters.  The department provides protection service for the immediate Town and Village and extended service to outlying areas through a cooperative effort directed through the County Emergency Services system.   The department conducts semi-annual fire inspections for commercial buildings.

Within the Fire Department, the Town and Village support a volunteer emergency services and first responders unit directed through the Door County Emergency Services by providing funds for equipment, supplies and training to the emergency personnel.    The Fire Chief issues burning permits.

FIRST RESPONDERS

The theme of National EMS Week, "EMS: There When You Need Us," focuses on the commitment and dedication of the 750,000 EMS providers who provide an essential community service every day in the United States.  This theme emphasizes how important our local emergency services (both volunteer and paid) have been to our success. It is an opportunity to say 'Thanks' and to honor their outstanding efforts.

National EMS Week honors the lifesaving care EMS providers offer nationwide, 24-hours-a-day seven days a week.  However, I would like to bring Emergency Medical Services Week to our local communities within Door County to not only publicize safety but to honor the dedication of all those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services within our community.

This theme emphasizes how important our emergency workers have been to our success and to say thanks for their outstanding efforts. This observance gives the communities across the nation a chance to pay tribute to emergency personnel in their areas.  Our local volunteer services, as well as paid service providers, dedicate many hours to specialized training and continuing education to enhance and maintain their lifesaving skills.  Emergency service practitioners are very special people, with a strong dedication to saving lives and easing suffering and pain, as well as protecting our properties, and protect our neighborhoods from crime and our homes from fire.  We have been fortunate to be able to develop both volunteer crews and paid personnel who are truly outstanding members of this vital profession and who truly make our community safer.  I wish to thank all the service members in Door County for your outstanding service to our community.

Volunteer First Responders, Volunteer Fire Fighters, career Fire Fighters, Dispatchers, Paramedics, Police, Sheriff, Coast Guard, DNR, Emergency Room Personnel, Eagle III, The Red Cross and everyone who puts forth the effort of making our communities safer.
