STR Licensing

In December of 2023, Chapter 118 – Short-Term Residential (STR) Dwelling ordinance was passed by the Village Board. Per this ordinance, no person may own or operate an STR within a residential dwelling without a Village of Egg Harbor issued STR License. All STR licenses are effective for 12 months with the term beginning on July 1 and terminating on June 30 of the following year. You must apply for a license each year and submit the associated fee of $250.

Registered Agent

If you do not live within 75 miles of the STR, you must have a registered agent that is able to respond to any issues with the property. There are two forms required for a registered agent, the registered agent registration form as well as a signed agreement and/or contract between the owner and the registered agent. Required Documents

You will need the following documents in order to complete the STR application:

STR Floor Plan with all rooms identified, indicating sleeping areas available for rent and max. capacity (for sleeping purposes). This can be a hand sketch.
Site Plan that indicates where parking is available onsite, driveway location, driveway width and max. number of parking spaces for guests. This can be a hand sketch.
Current Photos: 4 exterior photos of the STR (from each side) and 1 photo from the end of the driveway towards the dwelling.
Copy of the property Deed.
Copy of your Door County Tourism Zone Permit
Copy of your Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP) license issued by the State of WI
Copy of your most recent DATCP Inspection Report
List of neighboring properties - refer to the FAQs is you need assistance
Copy of your Property Rules
Registered Agent Form and Registered Agent Signed Statement (only if you live more than 75 miles from the STR)
Most recent Sanitation Report (only if not on municipal sewer)

FAQs

How often do I renew my Village STR License?

The Village's STR License is a yearly license that is issued from July 1 of the current year through June 30th of the following year.

Do I need to complete an application for every STR I own?

Yes. You are required to complete a full application for each STR due to the specific documents that are required.

How do I know if I need a Registered Agent?

If you do not live within 75 driving miles of the STR you need a Registered Agent. Please fill out the Registered Agent Registration Form and submit with your STR Application per 118.04(C)(1).

What is a DATCP License?

The Department of Agriculture, Trade & Consumer Protection (DATCP) is a license issued by the State of Wisconsin. Please visit their website for more information regarding DATCP Licenses.
